Stirling graduate Hanyu Fu

Hanyu's Story

Hanyu told how she was delighted to enrol at Stirling for the final year of her joint programme, after spending the first three years of her studies in China.

She said: “I wanted to spend time in the UK and decided to come to Stirling when I saw pictures of the safe and beautiful campus.

“I always wanted to be a conference interpreter and my course has given me so many transferrable skills that will be very helpful for my future development.”

Regular trips to the gym, as well as to other Scottish cities, and forging friendships with fellow students from around the world, ensured that Hanyu made the most of her time at the University.

Hanyu said: “The most important thing is that, besides being a student in Stirling, I had the chance to be a student ambassador.

“I was also pleased to assist the University’s communications, marketing and recruitment team, including creating content for Chinese and English social media, translating webpages and emails. I am very grateful for this experience because I learned so much from it.”

Hanyu said she particularly valued the varied cultural experience at Stirling.

She added: “During my time in the UK, I developed various skills, such as academic writing, self-learning and interpersonal skills – specifically in how to communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds.

“I also learned that being open-minded and culturally aware are the stepping stones to developing an international perspective. This will be very important for my future development and highly desirable to international organisations.”
