Hanna's Story

Hanna first fell in love with nature in her early 20s, working on a tall ship in the South Pacific Ocean where she had daily encounters with whales, dolphins, albatrosses and flying fish.

The 28-year-old was drawn to Stirling by the opportunity to study abroad – and enjoyed a trip to the University of Hawaii in her third year.

“The nature and biodiversity in Hawaii was so different compared to the rest of the world,” she said. “I took classes in the marine science and biology departments, learnt about oceanography and got to spend time on a humpback whale research vessel.”

Back at Stirling, Hanna appreciated the teaching and support on offer. She said: “I have learned skills that prepared me for other projects and that I was able to apply during my time studying abroad.

“I value the confidence I have obtained from studying at this University – the guidance from the lecturers and tutors has helped me overcome the challenges I have faced.”

Hanna describes her time at Stirling as “inspiring, challenging and amazing” and is planning to study a Masters.
