Undergraduate Law Placement Programme

Bring fresh legal insight, research support, and new talent into your organisation.

If your organisation has a legal project, research task, or operational need that would benefit from additional capacity, hosting a University of Stirling Law student could be the perfect solution.

Our LLB and BA Law students complete a 30‑hour placement during the Autumn semester, offering hands‑on support while gaining valuable real‑world experience within legal and law‑related environments.

Read on to learn how collaborating with our students can support your organisation — or get in touch to discuss your ideas.

Why host a Law student?

By welcoming a Stirling Law student into your organisation, you gain:

  • Dedicated project support from motivated and capable students.
  • Fresh perspectives and analytical thinking applied to legal issues.
  • The opportunity to mentor emerging legal talent.
  • A low‑cost way to tackle tasks you have not had time or resource to progress.
  • A strong connection with the University of Stirling and its growing network of legal partners.

Our students are committed, enthusiastic, and ready to apply their legal knowledge in a professional context.

What skills can our Law students offer?

Third- and fourth‑year undergraduate students (LLB and BA Law) bring strong foundations in:

  • Legal research and analysis.
  • Case preparation and document drafting.
  • Policy and legislative review.
  • Compliance and governance tasks.
  • Communication and client‑facing skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem‑solving.
  • Professional ethics and legal reasoning.

Students can support a wide range of organisations, including:

  • Law firms.
  • In‑house legal teams.
  • Public sector bodies.
  • Charities and NGOs.
  • Advocacy groups.
  • Regulatory, compliance, and governance teams.
  • Citizens Advice Bureaux (a regular and valued placement partner).

We encourage partners to begin with a clearly defined project, though additional tasks can be incorporated as the placement progresses.

Types of projects we can support include:

  • Supporting case preparation and background research.
  • Drafting letters, briefings, or reports.
  • Assisting with compliance or due‑diligence tasks.
  • Contributing to policy research or legal consultations.
  • Analysing legislation or regulatory changes.
  • Supporting community legal or advocacy work.
  • Conducting literature reviews or investigative research.

We are happy to discuss project ideas that meet your organisation’s needs.
