Operating with earth observation (EO) technology through to the development of in-situ techniques, my research focusses on the impact and fate of pollutants in a changing environment. Specialisations include environmental radioactivity and water quality.

2000 - 2009: Appointed to DPAG (Dounreay Particle Advisory Group)
2008 - present: Convener of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) working Group: Nuclear Instrumentation Subcommittee 45B-Environmental Radiation Protection
2009 - present: Member of the Particle Recovery Advisory Group (Dounreay): PRAG(D).
2011 - present: Member of the Dalgety Bay Particle Advisory Group (DBPAG).
2009 - present: The Committee for the Coordinating Group for Environmental Radioactivity (COGER)
2011 - present: DANUBIUS. Member advising on the science case for a Romanian Government led EU proposal for a new Science Institute in the Danube Delta.
2012: Chair of the National Committee 2 of the British Standards Institute (BSi), reviewing ISO and IEC standards for Radiation Protection.
2013-2016: Committee Member of the International Ocean-Colour Coordinating Group (IOCCG)
Other Academic Activities
Dalgety Bay Particle Advisory Group Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) Provide expert advice to SEPA on the radium contaminated land and particles
Research Includes:(1) Earth Observation. Rresearch pioneering the development of satellite and airborne remote sensing in quantifying the fate and impact of pollutants on the environment – especially aquatic systems. I am the lead PI on the s £2.9 Million NERC funded consortium Global Observatory of Lake Response to Environmental Change (GloboLakes). (2) Environmental Radioactivity. Head of the Environmental Radioactivity Laboratory, which is an ISO 17025:2005 accredited testing laboratory (UKAS accredited; 2751). The laboratory also specialises in environmental gamma ray spectrometry, including in-situ and mobile capabilities and the characteriation of hot particles.
