As Scotland's University for Sporting Excellence, we’re at the forefront of helping and inspiring talented athletes to fulfil their sporting and academic potential.

We’ve produced some of the some of the finest British and Scottish talent in history. Our student athletes have successfully competed at the Olympic games, the Commonwealth Games and the Walker Cup, to name a few.

University of Stirling's International Sports Scholarship Programme

The University's International Sports Scholarship Programme is one of the largest high performance sports programmes in the UK.

We’ve supported more than 1,000 UK and international student athletes since its inception in 1981.

Our sporting success

  • Our medal winners include 24 Olympians and 7 Paralympians. We hold nine world records.
  • We had 20 athletes compete at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and 9 at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
  • We are the only UK institution to have played – and won – in NCAA competition.
  • A record number of University of Stirling athletes won 18 medals at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
  • Our scholar-athletes have also competed at major sports competitions such as Wimbledon, The Open, The AIG Women’s Open and The Masters.

Our scholarships

Our sport scholarships can offer you financial support of up to £5,000 per annum. They’ll also provide you with a fantastic bespoke package of coaching, state-of-the-art facilities, performance mentoring and access to the latest innovations in sport research. We can help you combine flexible degree study with your success in competing at the highest levels of sport.

UK and international sports scholarships

These scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students from England, Wales, Northern Ireland or from outside the EU who meet both the sport-specific and academic qualification criteria.
