Background information

Eligibility and availability

These scholarships will be awarded to undergraduate and postgraduate students from England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, EU, and International students who meet the sport-specific qualification criteria and who meet or exceed their academic conditions for entry.

Sports scholarships can be awarded in addition to the Undergraduate Choice Scholarship and International Undergraduate Awards but cannot normally be combined with any other University scholarship. The Sports scholarship can be applied in addition to the EU Undergraduate Scholarship and EU Postgraduate Scholarship in the 2021/22 academic year.

Scholarships are awarded in the form of fee waivers and are for each year of study so undergraduates would receive the £2000 fee waiver for each of the four years of an Honours degree. As undergraduate students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland are eligible for a full Honours year fee waiver, the sports scholarship is only applicable to the first three years of their course.

How do I apply?

Up to 18 scholarships in football, golf, swimming, tennis and triathlon will be awarded, each with a value of £2000 (undergraduate) or £4000 (postgraduate) per year of study. Other sporting disciplines will be considered on a case by case basis if recipients meet the required criteria.

Scholarships will be awarded based on a combination of academic merit and sporting achievement. For more information on sporting criteria, please visit our Performance Sport webpage.
