HYROX Simulation Athlete Information

Saturday 29 August / Sunday 30 August 2026

Athlete Briefing

Thank you for signing up for our HYROX Simulation at the University of Stirling. We can't wait to welcome you to Scotland's University for Sporting Excellence and hope you have a great experience!

The aim of this HYROX simulation is to give you a taster of an event environment and experience completing the full race. The athlete briefing below provides details of what to expect on the day, along with start times.

To ensure you get the most out of the day, please read the briefing thoroughly and if you have any queries, please contact us via sportreception@stir.ac.uk prior to the event or speak with one of our team on the day.

All participants, including doubles partners and relay teammates, must complete the entrant form (Saturday 29 August entrant form / Sunday 30 August entrant form) and read and acknowledge the participant waiver (tick box in the form) before attending the event.

Key things to know

  1. Course update for August 2026! For any returning participants, please note there has been a slight change to the course, regarding entry points to the stations and location of the wall balls. Please see updated details in the Course Information section below.
  2. Start times have been designated based on factors including category and estimated finishing times. This is so athletes of all levels and abilities can have an enjoyable experience.
  3. For this simulation event, participants are responsible for measuring/recording their own times and splits. There will be a digital clock that will be visible at the finish line to help as a guide.
  4. Whilst we have made every effort to replicate the HYROX race as much as possible, please remember this is a simulation and not an official HYROX event!
  5. The running route is as close to the real event as we have been able to create, with our updated course (see details below) now a total distance of running over 9km including Roxzone.
  6. Movement standards and completion of the repetitions is the responsibility of participants. There will be volunteer judges to support athletes complete each station, however we will not enforce strict judging so please take pride in the quality of your reps! Read through the movement standards of the HYROX Rulebook if you are unsure.

Course information

Warm-up Zone

  • This area is for athletes to complete their warm-up.
  • The warm-up zone will contain Rowers/Ski-ergs/Bikes/Mats and other relevant equipment.
  • Participants will have access to outdoors for any runs they want to do.
  • Participants must be at the top corner of the warm-up zone no later than 5 minutes before their start time and meet the member of staff stationed there (signage will be in place).
  • The member of staff will then take the athletes to the Start Zone for their starting time.

Start Zone

  • Participants will start halfway down the indoor running zone, merge onto the running route and exit the “OUT” door to start their first run.

“OUT” Door

  • Participants will always exit out of this door when starting the running route.
  • Participants will turn right as soon as they go out the door and join the path.
  • Participants should be aware of two hazards: (1) The Low Door Height and (2) a small wall immediately outside the OUT door.
  • The low door height will be clearly marked, and padding will be placed to mitigate the risk.
  • There will be a marshal positioned at the door and cones placed to avoid the risk.
  • Participants must take care when exiting and be mindful of other participants, and exit the door in single file/one at a time.

Running Route

  • Participants will run down to the path towards the track, keeping to the left hand side of the path.
  • Participants will then enter the track and complete two full laps of the track clockwise.
  • This will be clearly signposted, and marshals will be positioned to ensure participants.
  • Participants will then leave the track, keeping to the left and make their way to the “IN” sign at side of building which will be signposted.
  • If the weather conditions fall a certain way (extreme cold / ice / rain), a contingency plan will be put in place and communicated with participants in advance.

Stations - UPDATED FOR AUGUST 2026

Entering

To enter a station, participants will come in the IN door and join the route they started on. They will run around the back of the hall (turning left before the OUT door) and run up the far side of the hall and start each station at that side.

Exiting

Once each station is completed, participants will exit the station at the opposite side (on the same side of hall as START) and re-join the running route. Please leave each station on the left hand side (the lower side as it appears on course map).

On the day information

Getting here / parking

Please find information about travelling to the University on our main Getting Here webpage.

Parking is free but please give plenty of time ahead of your start time, as campus can be a bit busier at weekends during semester time as there is lots going on!

On arrival

  • Enter the main Sport Centre reception when you arrive.
  • At reception, please make them aware you are here for the HYROX event, and you will be allowed entry to the facility.
  • There is a café on the left as you enter the building for any food/drinks. There are also vending machines in the building.
  • The tennis centre is located downstairs on the bottom level, taking left at the bottom of the stairwell. Signage will be in place to direct you.

Welcome / registration

  • All participants must register their attendance with the team at the registration desk in the tennis hall.
  • All participants must ensure they have acknowledged the participant waiver. The registration team will inform you if they require you to complete the acknowledgement.
  • The registration team will be able to answer any questions/queries as well as confirm your start time.

Changing facilities

  • There are changing facilities/toilets/showers/lockers next to the warm-up zone in the tennis centre.
  • There are also changing facilities/toilets/showers/lockers in the main changing areas which are also on the bottom level.
  • Lockers are padlock-operated and participants are encouraged to bring their own padlock, as University of Stirling Sport will take no responsibility for any lost/stolen valuables not put in a locker securely.
  • Padlocks are available to purchase at reception if required.

Water stations

  • Whilst the event will not provide water on the day like an official race (i.e. plastic cups), we will provide a table on course for participants to leave their water bottles which they will pass as they move through the stations.
  • There is a water fountain just outside the tennis centre for participants to use as they require.
  • There are also vending machines around the facility as well as the café located on the second/main floor (reception area).

Spectators

We'd be delighted for spectator to come along and support on the day and help create an atmosphere for the participants. The only thing we ask is for spectators to stay within the designated areas to ensure athletes are given appropriate space during the event.

As well as the recovery area, we will also have a designated spectator route that will ensure supporters can get a good view of every station.

Emergency procedures

Fire Evacuation

In the unlikely event of a fire, all participants and spectators must evacuate the tennis centre via one of the fire exits and make their way to the assembly point (number 4) which is located at the athletics track. There will be staff to direct you.

First Aid Procedure

There will be a member of the UOS Sport Operations team to support with First Aid. In the event of First Aid, please contact the nearest volunteer. In the event of a serious First Aid, there are 2 red emergency panic buttons located in the corners of the Tennis Centre.
