University of Stirling lecturer Dr Tom Montgomery is among some of Scotland’s top political thinkers who will take part in a conference this month on Scottish independence.
Dr Montgomery, an expert in work and organisation, will discuss his research into the state of the Scottish National Party and its trajectory since the 2014 Scottish independence referendum.
He will join former SNP Deputy Leader and author Jim Sillars, politicians Kenny Macaskill and George Kerevan, trade unionist Cat Boyd and political commentator Professor Sir John Curtice at the event in Glasgow on September 14.
The conference, organised by news website Conter, academics and political activists, will discuss Scottish independence and the British state 10 years on from the referendum.
Dr Montgomery, a lecturer at the University of Stirling Management School, this year published the first phase of a study which claimed that scandal alone can’t explain the crisis facing the SNP, and that the party was able to pursue everyday governance with little scrutiny.

The campaign for independence finds itself at a crossroads and what happens in the next ten years could be a decisive factor in shaping policy and politics in Scotland.
Dr Montgomery and his co-authors at Glasgow Caledonian University have been compiling the findings of the second phase of their study.
Dr Montgomery said: “The tenth anniversary of the independence referendum will be a crucial reflection point, not only for the SNP and the independence movement but also for Scotland’s politics. This conference marking the anniversary is an opportunity to debate and discuss our research findings.
