About HR and Organisation Development

The HR and Organisation Development team incorporates HR Services, HR Partnering and Organisation Development.

We are responsible for the employment of approximately 1,800 university staff, providing advice and guidance on matters relating to employment and development.

HR Services

The HR Services team is responsible for managing a range of HR activity and brings together four teams:

Employee Lifecycle

The Employee Lifecycle team is responsible for providing advice, guidance and support on a range of employee related lifecycle processes including processing payroll changes and providing faculties and service areas with monthly management information.  The team are also responsible for managing annual University committee’s including Academic Advancement Promotions Committee, Recognition Award Scheme, Research Leave, Academic Probation and Senior Remuneration.

Recruitment and Resourcing

The Recruitment and Resourcing team provide advice and guidance on all aspects of Recruitment across the University and act as a point of contact for recruiting managers.

Systems and Data

The HR Systems and Data team ensure that the University’s organisational objectives are supported by efficient, legally compliant, and customer focussed business processes, through the maintenance and development of systems and technology, and the preparation of management information and organisational performance data.

Payroll and Pensions

The HR Services Team (Payroll and Pensions) are responsible for processing the payroll for University staff taking account of the requirement to make statutory and non-statutory deductions from payments where appropriate, and for liaising with USS Pension Scheme, dealing with among other enquiries - contribution queries; retirement quotation requests.

HR Partnering

The HR Partnering team is focused on

  • delivering the strategic plan targets, in line with the People Strategy
  • embedding a strategic and successful approach to HR
  • organisation development and change throughout the University
  • improving the core HR service to meet customers’ expectations
  • policy and casework

The HR Partnering team work in partnership with Faculties and Directorates to provide business-focused, strategic and operational HR advice. 

The team provide support and guidance for managers and staff in relation to a wide range of HR aspects including supporting the implementation of the people strategy, organisational change and restructures, complex casework and performance management.
