How you'll be taught

Our priority is supporting your studies with teaching on campus and the right teaching tools to enhance your learning experience.

You'll experience small group face-to-face teaching sessions and some large lectures. You may also have some online classes which offer flexibility for all students. You'll be told at the start of a module about the mix of on-campus and online classes.

In class (on-campus or online)  and around the campus you can build relationships with other students and your lecturers and tutors to become part of a learning community, which supports your mental health and wellbeing.

In addition to classes you will have access to our virtual learning environment “Canvas”. This is a supportive, inclusive and active space for learning. Canvas will lead you through your module material and activities, to help keep you on track. Most live teaching sessions (online or on campus) will be recorded using ‘Listen Again’, so you can use these recordings to catch up and revise.

Your lecturers and tutors will be on hand to answer questions, lead activities and support you. Whether you are on campus or online, feedback and support are available at every stage. You will be allocated a personal tutor who will support you and signpost any additional support required.

Free access to Office 365

All students benefit from free access to Microsoft Office 365 which we use to teach, study and communicate.

Free laptop loans

We offer laptop loans free of charge to students on varying loan periods from 48 hours to a semester.

Library and study zones

We offer a range of study spaces in the library and across campus. Each area offers collaborative spaces, PCs and quiet corners. You'll have free access to around 500,000 e-books and e-journals.

How you'll be assessed

For most courses you'll be assessed through a range of tasks which reflect the skills developed on the course such as writing for different audiences, responding to a real-world problem or a brief, presentation and research. Most of our assessments are conducted online, which offers an inclusive approach to our students. Details of assessment for specific modules will be available when you choose your modules. Coursework can involve, for example, writing an essay, developing a business case, a presentation or a video. They can be individual or group exercises and are designed to help you consolidate and demonstrate your learning.

Whatever form your assessments take, your module co-ordinator will offer guidance on the expectations for particular assessments e.g. referencing, word count, use of particular resources, and marking criteria.

Feedback is offered on coursework to help you improve and reflect on your development. It will be returned within the University standard timescale of 15 working days (3 weeks).

Our Student Learning Services team run a regular schedule of workshops and tutorials along with great on-line guidance to enhance your study skills and support your success.

The Accessibility and Inclusion team are here to help advise students with disabilities.
