Joe came to the Stirling School of Education in 2015, following spells at Edge Hill and Liverpool Hope Universities. Before moving into higher education, he worked for nine years as a history teacher in secondary schools, with the last five as Head of Department. He has written for a general and academic audience and has worked for the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) as the Senior Lead Practitioner in History. Joe completed his first degree in history at the University of Cambridge, before completing a PGCE and Masters at Lancaster.
Joe completed his doctorate at the Keele University in 2015 which considered the importance of the history education discourse in the identity formation of practising history teachers and the role of this enacted identity in policy contestation.
Joe is the external examiner for the MSt in History Education at Cambridge University.
