Equality and
diversity

Since our founding, our values have always been about transforming the lives of our students and staff by valuing ability and not background.

We promote equality and diversity so that all our staff, students and visitors are treated with dignity and respect.

We do not tolerate harassment, victimisation or unjustified discrimination. We aim to maintain a culture inclusive of all sections of society.

We take a positive and proactive approach to equality and diversity.

  • We meet the requirements of the 2010 Equality Act, the public sector equality duty and Scottish specific equality regulations.
  • We’re proud to have been awarded the Athena SWAN bronze award in 2013 for our work promoting gender equality in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medical disciplines.
  • We promote equality and diversity through a variety of policies and initiatives. For example, the work of our Equality Champions in schools and the establishment of an Equality Action Forum.
  • We published our Gender Action Plan in July 2017, in line with guidance from the Scottish Funding Council.
