James Blair

James Blair is Interim Executive Director of Information Services at the University of Stirling

James is a senior leader with extensive experience in information technology, digital transformation, cyber security, enterprise systems, and service delivery within higher education.

He has held a number of leadership positions, providing strategic direction across digital services, technology infrastructure, information security, governance, and business systems. He has played a key role in driving institutional digital transformation initiatives, including cloud migration programmes, enterprise application modernisation, data and analytics developments, and the adoption of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

James is a graduate of Edinburgh Napier University and holds an Executive MBA. He has been a longstanding creator to the UCISA Cyber Security Group (CISG) Survey for over eight years, In 2026, James was recognised as one of Computing magazine's Top 100 IT Leaders in the UK, reflecting his leadership and contribution to the advancement of digital services and information technology within higher education.

Responsibilities

James leads the Information Services Directorate and is responsible for the strategic development and delivery of the University's digital, information, and technology services. This includes overseeing IT operations, cyber security, enterprise systems, infrastructure, digital transformation programmes, data and analytics capabilities, and service improvement initiatives.

He works collaboratively with colleagues across the University to develop and implement technology strategies that support learning, teaching, research, and professional services, ensuring that Information Services delivers secure, reliable, and innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of staff and students.
