Chat with a Tutor tutorials

Any student can book an individual session to chat about any aspect of their learning and studying at university. Usually students will come with questions about a particular issue or may want to discuss how to approach an assignment or the tutor feedback.

When do these sessions run?

You can choose to have a virtual ‘Chat with a Tutor’ session or you can meet with us face-to-face on campus. You can book one session at a time, up to two weeks ahead.

How to book a session

To book a 50 minute virtual session, please e-mail us at sls@stir.ac.uk. In the email please let us know:

  • Your student number
  • What day and date you would like a session on
  • If you would like a virtual or a face-to-face on campus tutorial
  • What year and course you are on
  • A brief note of what you would like to discuss

If you are an international student who wants to improve their language, please check out our Study Skills workshops.

For international students

There are additional drop-in sessions focused on language support. These are on a Tuesday morning. To book a slot, please email kevyn.whitelaw@stir.ac.uk.

Where will the session take place?

If your session is virtual, you will be sent a link to the meeting before the arranged time. Please join early just to check that everything is working.

If you are meeting us on campus, you will receive an email telling you where the tutorial will be and confirming your appointment time. Please follow any guidance given for managing Covid precautions on campus.

How long will the session last?

The session will last up to 50 minutes depending on what you want to discuss. To make the most of the time, please send us any relevant documents the day before the tutorial. Come to the tutorial ready to ask any questions you have about your studying and assessments.
