The Postgraduate Research Zone

You’ll have access to a central hub for skills training and community activities. Housed within the library, our Postgraduate Research Zone places a 60-seat lecture theatre, presentation and videoconferencing facilities, two boardrooms, and an informal meeting area at your disposal.

Events and networking

The Institute for Advanced Studies organises postgraduate skills workshops, research seminars and support events that run throughout the year, giving you the opportunity to meet industry experts, researchers and visiting academics.

Our events enable you to build industry contacts, enhance your academic experience and find your place in our dynamic and ever-growing postgraduate community.

The Three Minute Thesis is a fun competition giving participants three minutes to present their ideas and research in a language that can be understood by a non-specialist audience.

Spark: our international postgraduate journal

Spark is our interdisciplinary, high-quality journal of postgraduate research.

We review and publish research from across all academic disciplines; encouraging the integration of disciplines, theoretical practices and data gathering. We’re particularly interested in international perspectives on global themes and issues.

Our Postgraduate Research Mentoring Programme is a scheme designed to help new research students settle in and enhance their development, progress and sense of belonging.


We’ve established a PhD exchange programme with Lingnan University, Hong Kong.

It’s a unique opportunity for students to conduct research on an international level and gain a different perspective from scholars. Scholarship funds are available on the programme to cover travel and most accommodation.
