Stirling athletes add three more medals at Glasgow 2026

University of Stirling athletes are continuing their march at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow – adding a further three medals to their tally and taking the running total to 12.

On Monday, the 22-strong group from Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence won two silvers in swimming and a bronze in artistic gymnastics – adding to the nine it had secured across the medal-laden opening weekend.

Keanna MacInnes put in a tremendous performance in the Women’s 100m Butterfly to win silver, Freya Anderson brilliantly anchored Team England to second in the Women’s 4x200m Freestyle and Cameron Lynn put on a stunning show to take bronze in the Men’s Pommel Horse Final.

Keanna MacInnes, 24, recorded a time of 57.33 in the Women's 100m Butterfly Final - shaving 0.35 seconds off her qualifying time and breaking her own Scottish record. Keanna was third at the turn but managed to pass South Africa's Erin Gallagher (57.39) - much to the delight of the rapturous Glasgow crowd - to take silver behind Australia's Alex Perkins (56.36).

Speaking afterwards, Keanna said: "I'm just starting to get my breath back. That was so incredible.

"I'm so grateful to the crowd for making it such a special memory for me. I'm so grateful to my parents and boyfriend who are up in the crowd and I'm so glad I was able to do it in front of them.

"A silver is crazy to me. Maybe I was thinking 'bronze could be really cool' so this is just so amazing."

Freya Anderson, 25, secured her third silver medal of the Games with England with a brilliant anchor leg in the Women's 4x200m Freestyle Relay, alongside Freya Colbert, Abbie Wood and Leah Schlosshan. The quartet finished in second with a time of 7:50.10, behind Australia (7:42.53) in first and ahead of New Zealand (7:51.94) in third. 

In front of a loud home crowd, Cameron Lynn put in a brilliant performance in the Pommel Horse Final to take bronze with a score of 13.833, just ahead of his Scotland teammate Reuben Ward (14.966). Canada's Jordan Carroll (15.000) won gold in the event at The Arena. 

12 medals

It takes University of Stirling athletes to 12 medals at Glasgow 2026 so far – with further medal opportunities in the days ahead. This afternoon (July 28), Cameron Lynn will seek to add to his medal tally when he competes in the Men’s Horizontal Bars Final, before his Stirling teammates take to the pool in another exciting evening of racing at Tollcross International Swimming Centre. Katie Shanahan will compete in the 200m Individual Medley Final, George Smith in the 200m Breaststroke Final and Dean Fearn in the 50m Butterfly Semi-final, while there will also be Stirling interest in the Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay Final.  

Meanwhile, the University’s wheelchair basketballer Shayne Humphries has made it to the Men’s 3x3 Semi-finals with Scotland, who have stormed the pool stage of their competition – winning all three matches against South Africa, Malaysia and Wales. They are one of four teams who will fight it out for the three medals on Wednesday afternoon (29 July).

There will be further medals up for grabs on the final day of swimming (29 July) and Stirling judoka Gabriella Wood will compete for Trinidad and Tobago in the +78kg category on Sunday (2 August).

The University of Stirling has sent a record number of athletes to the Commonwealth Games, representing six countries across four sports.

Freya Anderson won her third relay silver medal of the Games.
