Study Abroad: how to apply

When applications are open, simply complete our application form below and send it, along with your supporting documents to studyabroadIN@stir.ac.uk. You must be currently enrolled at a higher education institution as an undergraduate to apply. We recommend that you download the application form before filling it in.

Applications for 2024/25 are now open.

On the application form, we ask you to choose the modules you’d like to study and reserve choices.  It is very important for you to include reserve choices as some modules may be withdrawn, or there may be timetable clashes with your main module choices.

If you’re coming through a reciprocal exchange programme, you need to be nominated by the Study Abroad Office at your home university in order to apply.

Are you from the USA, Australia or New Zealand?

You can apply through one of our study abroad providers instead of applying directly to us. See who our study abroad providers are.

Supporting documents

In addition to your completed Study Abroad Application form, you’ll also need:

  • your most recent transcript from your home university
  • a copy of your passport picture page
  • an academic recommendation (not required for reciprocal exchange students who have been nominated by their home university)
  • in some cases, evidence of English language ability is required. See our English language requirements.

Application deadlines

For 2024/25 applications:

  • 30 April for autumn entry or full-year applications.
  • 15 October for spring entry applications.

What happens next?

An email will be sent to successful applicants with further information, including a guide to applying for accommodation and registering for modules (courses). We'll also send you our Study Abroad Student Handbook, which includes all the information you need to know.
