The Art Collection returns to the Macrobert Arts Centre, along with our friends in the University Archives for our annual Culture on Campus Exhibition.
Culture on Campus is a collaborative project between the Art Collection, University Archives and Special Collections and the Macrobert Arts Centre. Our shared goal is the develop the cultural offer on campus, where creative thinking and acts are at the heart of our identity as a place of learning.
You cannot visit the University of Stirling, set in the historic parkland of the Airthrey Estate, without engaging with the natural environment. On a local level we have witnessed the effects of the climate crises here on our doorstep, with more extreme weather causing flooding and water shortage at various points in the year.
We all have a part to play in making meaningful changes to support the sustainability of our local environment. The University of Stirling is committed to climate action; its sustainability plan details the breadth of activities currently being undertaken on campus. This ranges from upgrading our infrastructure to be more energy efficient, to restoring much of our campus to natural parkland meadow.
In this exhibition, we reflect on how the natural environment of the campus has evolved over time and how our collections represent these changes. We also consider the role that artistic interventions can play to help us to engage with the climate crisis in meaningful ways. We invite you to reflect and record your own experiences of biodiversity and climate change on the campus.
