Abstract
This project explored public perceptions on the use of technology within the criminal justice system, specifically automated face recognition and lie detection. Given the ethical complexity of deploying such technologies at scale, and the binary nature of the ongoing debate surrounding these technologies, this research aimed to gain nuanced insights into public understanding, attitudes, and concerns. This project used a novel community philosophy approach to engage with diverse members of the public to understand how perceptions emerge and evolve. This project will inform future thinking on the responsible development and deployment of such technologies.
