Abstract
Shawlands Primary school children visited Govanhill Baths on Calder Street as part of the AHRC Care for the Future research looking at sports heritage in the southside of Glasgow. The pupils met Andrew Johnston, the Chair of Govanhill Baths Community Trust, and one of the original activists who fought to keep the baths open as a public resource after its closure by the City Council in 2001. Through its campaigns and fundraising the Trust has successfully obtained a hundred year lease from the council with plans to renovate the building and the pool for community use as a Wellbeing Centre.
