Stirling welcomes over 3600 new students for new academic year

Back to news

Stirling will welcome over 3600 new undergraduate and postgraduate students to the University as the new academic year begins on 10 September.

Local shops and services should be ready for a significant increase in demand for their goods and services in the days prior to the start of the new semester as families settle students into their new accommodation, both on and off campus.

New undergraduates arrive on Saturday 8 September, when they and their families will be welcomed by the Principal, Professor Gerry McCormac. Thereafter, new undergraduates will enjoy a fun packed timetable of induction events during Freshers’ Week to help them settle in.

an Cockbain, Director of the Student Recruitment and Admissions Service, says: “The beginning of a new semester is always an exciting time, with the campus coming alive as students start a new academic session.

“We will be working hard to welcome new students, helping them to settle in quickly to their new surroundings and familiarise themselves with all the support and services which the University has to offer.”

While the immediate focus is on the new arrivals, Stirling is already recruiting students for the academic years beginning in 2013 and 2014. The University has already published its undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses for 2013 and is holding Open Days for prospective students on Saturday 22 September and Saturday 3 November this year.

Open Days allow prospective students and their families, teachers and careers advisers to explore the many options for study at Stirling. The Open Days offer opportunities to tour the campus, attend presentations and displays or discuss options and university life with staff and students.

Stirling provides an inspirational learning and living environment in a campus setting that is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. Stirling is ranked number one in Scotland and eighth in the UK in The Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 table, which ranks the world’s best 100 universities under 50 years old.
