Scotland’s International Environment Centre

Policymakers around the world are beginning to appreciate the opportunities and benefits of green, inclusive growth. However, unlocking these benefits requires effective environmental regulation, developed in collaboration with researchers.

Economic growth is not sustainable without sound environmental management, but environmental sustainability is often perceived as a secondary priority. The solution is to develop a comprehensive approach to environmental stewardship that places responsibility and sustainability at the centre of the drive to be more productive.

The vision

A £22m investment to create a cutting-edge research and policy hub at the University and state-of-the-art training facilities and environmental business incubator in Clackmannanshire. The Environment Centre will provide the best possible conditions and infrastructure for businesses to flourish and ensure a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment for future generations.

Expanding excellence

The research and policy hub will build on the University’s existing relationships with industry and regulatory bodies, including the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, offering innovative solutions to policymakers and businesses. By fostering interactions between researchers and practitioners, we will co-create the dynamic responses needed to tackle environmental challenges across the world.

The Stirling and Clackmannanshire region has established itself as a hub for environmental and conservation activity in Scotland, with four times the national average number of jobs in the environment sector. Through enhancing collaborations between researchers, businesses and regulators, and providing new training and educational opportunities, the Centre builds on these foundations to provide a unique source of clean, locally driven and socially inclusive growth.
