Graduated in Archaeology and History at Cardiff University 1975 Obtained doctorate in 1985 on The Deserted Medieval Villages of North Northumberland Director of Border Burghs Archaeology Project from 1983-8 Joined the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland in 1989. Deputy Head of Survey at Historic Environment Scotland 2016-8
