What is university Clearing?

A quick guide to university Clearing for students and parents

You can enter Clearing if you didn’t get the results you were hoping for – or if you did better than you thought you would. UCAS Clearing and Adjustment gives you the opportunity to secure your university place by applying through the Clearing process.

Clearing for 2021 is now closed. Search our courses for entry in 2022.

What is Clearing for university?

Clearing at university is part of the UCAS application process for undergraduates. It’s a way of matching students without a university place to universities who have course places to fill. Once your results are available, you can see if you’re eligible for Clearing by checking UCAS Track. This also is where you’ll find your Clearing number.

You can use university Clearing to find a course place if:

  • you didn’t receive any offers
  • you declined offers you did receive
  • you didn’t meet the criteria for conditional offers for your chosen universities
  • you applied after 30 June and were automatically entered into Clearing

Clearing is about preparation, acting fast and picking up the phone to us as soon as you get your results. Find out how to get prepared for Results Day.

Wondering what to do next? Let us explain.

How do I get a Clearing place at the University of Stirling?

So how does Clearing at university work? Answer: it’s super easy.

  1. Call us on our hotline on +44 (0)1786 467044 to find out about Clearing spaces.
  2. Talk to someone in our specialist Admissions team.
  3. We may make you an offer dependent on your grades, circumstances and course choices.
  4. If we make you an offer, you don’t have to accept straight away – you have time to consider (we’ll give you a deadline).
  5. If you decide to accept our offer, we’ll give you details to enter on UCAS Track using the ‘Add a Clearing Choice’ button.
  6. You can only enter one Clearing choice – and it must match up with what you discuss with us over the phone.

What happens if I receive an offer from the University of Stirling?

We'll send you a confirmation email the same day (remember to check your spam folders). You'll have 24 hours to confirm your offer through UCAS Track. Log in to your UCAS account to confirm your offer before the offer expires.

If you don't receive an email, phone our Clearing line.

Already have an offer from another university?

Holding another offer does not stop you coming to the University of Stirling. If you contact our Clearing helpline we'll be happy to check your eligibility and talk you through the processes involved.

If you meet and exceed the conditions of your conditional firm choice, you could use UCAS Adjustment to find a place on a University of Stirling course which requires higher grades.

What is Adjustment in UCAS?

UCAS Adjustment is for students who have done better than they expected in their results. If you’ve met and exceeded conditions for your conditional firm choice, you could potentially adjust to a course at the University of Stirling.

Find out more about UCAS Adjustment.

Can I still apply for a student loan in university Clearing?

Yes, although you will need to contact your relevant student finance organisation. Keep all your important documents and identification to hand, as this will make the application process run smoothly.

Clearing accommodation

Once you've secured your place at Stirling through the UCAS Clearing process, you'll receive a confirmation email from us. This will have your Applicant Number on it. We'll send you an email in the weeks after accepting your place with instructions on how to apply for accommodation at Stirling.

If you're from England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Republic of Ireland or international, we’ll guarantee you an offer of University-managed accommodation in your first year of study if you meet the eligibility criteria. Your accommodation application must reach us by 31 August 2022.

Why should I choose Stirling?
