Abstract
First paragraph: Modern economics operates within a wider cultural and intellectual context where pluralism is widespread. This pluralism arose from a reaction in the last few decades against the measuring of cultural experience and intellectual ideas against some notion of an absolute norm, which tended to dominate in the middle of the twentieth century. Thus there is now a positive embracing of the pluralist society and a rejection of scientism.
