This paper analyses the conceptual-aesthetic experimentations carried out within the context of the Di Tella Institute in 1960s Argentina as a highly self reflexive and pioneering moment about the concept of (communication) 'medium' - as a radically external materiality (Angus) that is capable of shaping and instituting space/time relations. Whlist theoretically reviewing, among other notions, the concept of happening as a genre, the analysis focuses on Marta Minujín's Simultaneidad en simultaneidad ['Simultaneity in Simultaneity'] (1966) and Oscar Masotta's El helicóptero ['The Helicopter'] (1966), as precursory aesthetic experiences in the historical process of reflection on the new communicational structures brought about by mediatization in contentemporary societies.
