Abstract
First paragraph: Work-related violence is a serious problem within healthcare that diminishes the quality of working life for staff, compromises organizational effectiveness, and ultimately impacts negatively on the provision of services to users. Recognition of the increased risk in mental health services imposes professional, statutory, and moral imperatives upon employers to provide staff with safe, clinically effective training in the management of work-related violence.
