Abstract
First paragraph: This Catalogue is a finding aid to the papers of American colonial governor, Sir Francis Bernard (1712-79). It lists the extant and non-extant correspondence and other manuscripts pertaining to Bernard's life and career as governor of New Jersey (1758-60) and Massachusetts (1760-69). It is a work in progress, amplifying the lists of correspondence appended to the published volumes of Bernard's papers and in anticipation of providing a descriptive calendar of all the material. The Bernard Papers comprises a series of five volumes of papers concerning Bernard's governorship of colonial Massachusetts, with a projected sixth Calendar volume of all his papers.1 The process of cataloguing the entire collection will not be complete until publication of the Calendar, and the Catalogue should thus be considered an interim report subject to revision.
