Abstract
First paragraph: The United Kingdom has a unique constitutional landscape in comparison to any other nuclear state. Due to devolution within the UK the current pro-nuclear policy faces a challenge not previously encountered. Competence to legislate in certain areas is now shared with the Scottish government and regional assemblies in Wales and Northern Ireland. The issue of nuclear waste management raises particular problems for Scotland with the vote for Scottish independence looming.
