Abstract
Exotic, or non-indigenous, species of carps are of significant importance to aquaculture and particularly to the livelihoods of the poorer sectors of society in several Asian countries. The management of exotic species of fish for aquaculture (and fisheries) raises a number of important issues for stakeholders, particularly those involved in low input aquaculture, including the introduction of exotic species, their management and the improvement of stocks. Many of the issues of genetic management and improvement are, however, common to indigenous and exotic species, and it is hoped by the organisers that many of the outputs of this project will also have application to indigenous species in aquaculture. This proceedings contains twelve papers and a discussion reflecting the issues raised by participants.
