Abstract
There is a growing evidence base regarding the efficacy of smoking cessation interventions in secondary care which suggests that interventions which begin during a hospital stay and include postdischarge follow-up are effective in helping people to quit. Less is known about what precise form or combination of services is likely to be most effective, and how these should be implemented. This study aimed to map the extent and nature of cessation support in secondary care in Scotland, to highlight possible gaps and new learning, to provide examples of promising practice, and to compare current practice with existing guidance.
