Abstract
First paragraph: In the developed world laboratory diagnosis of infectious agents has developed rapidly. In serology methods experienced a leap forward with the introduction of monoclonal antibodies and the enzyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA), which partly lead to automation of serological testing in big commercial or governmental diagnostic centres. The cytometric bead array (CBA) is the latest development and its fluid phase kinetics produce even more clear-cut results but has not yet reached the diagnostic laboratory.
