Abstract
Public relations is a young academic discipline with merely 30 years of an independent theoretical development, in Slovenia due to political reasons with only 20. In this relatively short period of time, public relations theory and research have come a remarkably long way: from establishing its own area of study, to overcoming immaturity issues and recently expanding its horizons. The similar path can be observed in Slovenia, where academic public relations - with well established professional bodies, strong links with international academic associations, regular yearly conferences and symposia, university programmes, and scientific and professional publications - is currently compatible with its counterparts in the US and Europe.
