Abstract This essay explores the engagement of the press and printers in the military campaigns of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries focusing especially on the Covenanters and Jacobites. Particular emphasis is placed on the involvement of printers themselves and on how they persisted in spite of the efforts of oppositional authority.
