Abstract
The Edinburgh Companion to the Short Story in English is aimed principally at researchers and postgraduate students with interests in English-language fiction since the nineteenth century. Covering writing from Britain, Ireland, the U.S., Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, and the Caribbean, the book casts new light on the means and modes of circulation and transmission of anglophone short stories around the world, on the relationships, contrasts, and correspondences between the literatures of various World Englishes, and on the question of how and why the short story has proven an amenable and resourceful form for writers, publishers, and readers in so many diverse situations.
