Abstract
As an academic field, Jungian film studies has become increasingly open to, and supportive of, projects that take Jungian and post-Jungian approaches to culture, as the central articulation of their studies. This chapter offers a critically-reflective, and self-analytical account of some of the most important ideas and principles to emerge in post-Jungian media scholarship. I present these materials in a series of three interrelated provocations and critical reflections, to provide an idea of the scope, scale and richness of ideas represented within this dynamic field of study. These provocations are: (1) Archetypes are not “on the screen” or “in” the film (but they may be discernible “in the work of the film” from certain perspectives). (2) Cinema does not stop where the screen ends. (3) The work of the film is not limited to the duration of the film’s screening.
