Abstract
First paragraph: I have come to Serbia at the invitation of the British Council. Somehow, amidst the frantic programme, I find myself in Nis, after a talk at the University, with an afternoon to explore, and an amiable companion, Bojana, a recent graduate in English, to act both as interpreter and imparter of local knowledges.
