Abstract
First paragraph: Playing football, hide and seek and skipping, all activities synonymous with being an eight year-old. Under Scots law, that same eight year old could also be held criminally responsible for his or her actions. Scotland has one of the lowest ages of criminal responsibility in the world, a fact criticised earlier this year by the United Nations Human Rights Committee.
