About me

I completed an integrated master's in marine and freshwater biology at the University of Glasgow where I worked on the phylogenetics of Arctic charr with the Elmer lab. As part of attaining my master's I did a work placement with the Toonen-Bowen lab at the Hawai'i Institute of Marine Biology using eDNA to understand the diversity and ecology of Symbiodinium present within the water column. I grew a passion for long hikes and scuba diving, leading me to volunteer at a conservation project in Indonesia, where I attained my divemaster and scientific diving experience.

My drive for conservation and passion about the Scottish aquatic ecosystem led me back to Scotland to continue my studies into a PhD. My research aims to understand the ecological dynamics of the preyscape for juvenile freshwater Atlantic salmon. I will be focusing on the seasonal energy availability of this preyscape, and how it may be impacted by fish density and diet selectivity. I hope to provide a model or metric for river management to make more informed decisions in their efforts to conserve these salmonids.
