Project

Freshwater cage farming in a changing world

Funded by Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre.

Collaboration with Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), Dawnfresh Limited, Mowi (Scotland), Norsk institutt for vannforskning (NIVA) and Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).

This will be based around management of freshwater aquaculture in a changing environment, as there is considerable interest in sustainable production of smolts in cages at present to feed the increase in demand. This links with the expansion plans of both Scottish and Norwegian salmon industries.

This will be in collaboration with a number of producers including Mowi and Dawnfresh and Aquaculture Stewardship Council, and NIVA in Norway. The ASC has just revised their freshwater certification to include freshwater cages for salmon smolts
