About me

About me

I am a lecturer in Mental Health Nursing in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport. I am a registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN). My clinical background is predominantly in substance use services, however I had a secondment with CAMHS with a role addressing the impact of parental mental health. I have worked with South Lanarkshire Council, NHS Forth Valley and NHS Tayside. I completed MSc Child Welfare & Protection at University of Stirling in 2013 and my dissertation focused on information sharing between services regarding parental substance use. Prior to joining University of Stirling in 2017, I worked with Scottish Drugs Forum (National Quality Development Team). I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I am a NMC Academic Assessor. I am module coordinator and deputy module coordinator for some undergraduate Mental Health modules. I am Module Coordinator for ADPP015, Essentials of Mental Health Assessment - a multi-professional approach (MSc Advancing Practice). I contribute to curriculum development, teaching and assessment on the BSc Nursing programme. My areas of interest are mental health; alcohol and drug use; families; trauma; participation and empathy. I am a member of Drugs Research Network Scotland (DRNS) and Scottish Drugs Forum (SDF). I contributed to Care Inspectorate report "Alcohol and Drug Partnerships: A report on the use and impact of the Quality Principles through validated self-assessment". I also provided evidence and recommendations to Dundee Drugs Commission.
