About me

About me

My name is John Mathers and I am a module coordinator within the MSc Psychology of Sport at the University of Stirling. I am a BASES accredited sport psychologist, a Chartered Psychologist with the BPS and a registered practitioner with the Health and Care Professions Council HCPC. I have been providing sports psychology services to individual athletes and sports teams for over 25 years and provide an insight to this work through modules that form part of the MSc Degree.

My research interests include the delivery and integration of mental skills teaching and learning within elite sport and I currently provide sport psychology services to individual athletes and teams who compete in National and International events, on professional sports tours and in major championships. I also provide sports psychology consultancy services to a number of National Governing Bodies of Sport in Scotland, the UK and in Europe.
