Children can get into the Olympic spirit this summer and experience a new sport at the University of Stirling.

From canoeing to street dance and athletics to triathlon, the summer holiday programme is packed with almost 100 classes, delivered by our experienced University staff.

The eight-week programme starts on 25 June and classes are offered for children aged three to 15, ensuring everyone has the chance to enjoy a new sport.

Street Dance is one of several new classes on the programme in 2012, led by instructor Gavin Ellis. He will cover a combination of break dancing, hip hop and street dance moves, giving children a fun chance to emulate groups like Diversity, who shot to fame on ITV show Britain’s Got Talent.

He said: “Street Dance will let kids try something different and it has great health benefits. It is a fun way to express yourself and to improve timing, co-ordination and core strength. It is really satisfying to crack what initially looks like a really tough move – I still get a great sense of achievement from each new move and that helps to build confidence.”

As well as the main classes, there are also two summer sport memberships available at the University. Children aged 16 to 17 can also enjoy an excellently priced summer Sports Centre membership, complete with access to the gym, swimming pool and fitness classes such as Indoor Cycling and Step.

Keen golfers aged 12 to 15 will enjoy the chance to test their skills on the University’s family-friendly campus golf course, with a special unlimited summer membership.

Sheena Dickson, from the University’s Sports Development team, said: “With the Olympic Games just around the corner, sport is certainly in focus this summer and our programme gives children a chance to take what they see on the television and give it a try themselves at the University of Stirling. We have something for everyone, with 12 different activities to choose from and highly skilled coaches who can accommodate all abilities.”

Classes are offered in weekly blocks starting on 25 June until 17 August, priced from £16.
