25- and 40-year long-service awards
Staff were presented with awards to mark long service to the University of Stirling.

Eleven staff at the University of Stirling were presented with long-service awards during a presentation held at Stirling Management Centre on 15 March.

The dedicated members of staff have managed to clock up more than 290 years of service between them, with 10 receiving awards for 25 years’ service and one – Library cataloguer Lynne Giddes-Currie – receiving an award for contributing 40 years to the institution.

Lynne (57), from Riverside, has worked in the Library since she left school and is a fountain of knowledge for other Library staff due to her vast experience.  She said: “The Library and University have changed so much since I started as a shy 17 year-old who stamped the books, but it really is an amazing place.  As an avid reader the Library is like working in an Aladdin’s Cave of books and it has encouraged my curiosity in a number of subjects.”

She added: “I love the atmosphere of working in higher education and the wealth of information and knowledge at your fingertips. It is great working with the students and the job is very interesting as you meet so many people from other cultures, which makes it quite a privileged environment to be in.”

Lynne is a familiar face for the thousands of students who have filtered through the Library over the years. “I was boarding a train in London and a German man came over and pressed a book into my hand and asked me if I could return it for him!” she added.

Principal Gerry McCormac and Secretary Kevin Clarke, who hosted the event, thanked the staff for their dedication and commitment to the University.

Kevin Clarke said: “People - the staff and the students - are at the heart of any great university. Today we celebrate the very special contribution made by a team of staff who have served generations of students over many years. We are delighted to be able to mark their tremendous achievement and to thank them for their years of unstinting effort."
