New Head for School of Health Sciences

Jayne Donaldson

A senior academic from Napier University in Edinburgh, Professor Jayne Donaldson, has been appointed as the Head of School of Health Sciences at the University of Stirling.

She said: “I am delighted to be working at the University of Stirling given the University’s research profile, and strength of commitment to research, education and innovation.

“I relish the challenge of leading and working with a team who are recognised as world class, and placed top in Scotland at the most recent Research Assessment Exercise.”

Professor Donaldson is a Registered Nurse and Registered Nurse Teacher, and has worked within Higher Education since 1998. She led and managed the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Care at Edinburgh Napier University, and was an Honorary Doctor of Nursing and Midwifery Studies at NHS Borders.

Professor Donaldson has a keen interest in the quality of patient experience within healthcare, and recently co-edited a special edition within Nurse Education Today relating to her work in compassionate person-centred care.

She is an active member of Scottish Academic Heads for Nursing, and Allied Health Professions network and the UK-wide Council of Deans of Health.

Professor Donaldson lives near Lanark with her daughter, aged 8, and enjoys outdoor hobbies such as horse riding, cycling and walking.

Professor Gerry McCormac, the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Stirling, said: “We are delighted to welcome Professor Donaldson to the team at Stirling. Professor Donaldson has an internationally recognised academic record of research achievement in nursing education and practice, including successful grant applications and extensive research publications.
