University of Stirling’s School of Education has just signed a new partnership agreement with five local authorities in central Scotland.

The University of Stirling’s School of Education has just signed a new partnership agreement with five local authorities in central Scotland.

The new partnership strengthens ties between the University and local schools.

The agreement covers Falkirk, Stirling, Clackmannanshire, Perth and Kinross and West Lothian Councils.

The agreement - covering career-long professional learning, starting at the early phase of teacher education - is part of a national initiative across Scotland.  This requires all local authorities and universities providing initial teacher education to enter into formal partnership agreements.

Dr Alison Fox, Director of Local Authority Partnerships at the University, said: “The overall aim is to work together to enhance and assure the quality of professional learning to raise standards across the country, at the same time allowing flexibility to respond to local circumstances.

“We also want to foster innovation and meet the diverse needs of the communities we serve. As a leading research institution we are well placed to work with our colleagues in the field to continue to improve and develop the quality of teaching and learning in our schools.”

She added: “The ultimate goal is to deliver high quality learning experiences for pupils. We believe that, by the University and local authorities working together, we can equip teachers and school leaders to provide the best possible education in classrooms – and raise the attainment of our young people.”
