David's Story

Boosting career prospects

The wide range of subjects offered through the Masters gave me excellent opportunities to expand my knowledge in areas that have been highly beneficial to my career. The teaching was of an exceptionally high standard, and the lecturers were always approachable and willing to share their expertise and time. I also thoroughly enjoyed studying on campus. The relaxed atmosphere and stunning surroundings made it a fantastic place to learn.

Balancing work and study

As a part-time student with a full-time job and young family, I attended the campus on teaching days and worked remotely from the Library. It was a great place to work remotely, and I would recommend it for anyone who wishes to study and still work.

Informing professional decisions

Undertaking the Masters part-time, while working in my chosen career in a democratic governance role in Local Government, provided me with an opportunity to enhance my knowledge and understanding of public policy and how and why policy change happens. This has been invaluable and has helped me to offer better advice and support to policymakers. Undertaking the Masters was also helpful in getting me back into sourcing academic studies for evidence, which I have put into practice in my work.

Learning from experts

The teaching staff are very knowledgeable and experts in their field, so make use of them. I found every lecturer to be very open to giving feedback on proposals for assignments and I was appreciative of their help. I know from speaking with students who have studied elsewhere that this isn’t always their experience, so make the most of it at Stirling.
