Admissions and COVID-19

This page has information on what you can do if your plans to go to university have been affected.

Note: If your question isn't answered here, contact admissions directly on admissions@stir.ac.uk (undergraduate) or graduate.admissions@stir.ac.uk (postgraduate).

Postgraduate academic evidence

We understand universities and schools have been affected by COVID-19. We will accept digital copies of documents. If you have any concerns, contact graduate.admissions@stir.ac.uk.

Deferring your start

We will consider deferred entry request at any stage of the application process – but this will depend on place availability.

Similarly, if you applied for deferred entry but want to come this year, we will consider this request. This also depends on availability.

You can do this on the portal. You will find guidelines on how to defer your offer. Alternatively, contact admissions@stir.ac.uk or graduate.admissions@stir.ac.uk, quoting your UCAS ID (undergraduate) or student number.

Changing course

Sometimes people change their minds about what they want to study. Any course change request will be considered on a case by case basis depending on the availability of places. Applicants should contact admissions@stir.ac.uk or graduate.admissions@stir.ac.uk

How you'll be taught this year

Following advice from the Scottish Government, the University is developing a blended learning model. This will combine online interactive learning with some socially distanced, face-to-face teaching where we can. Find out more about how you'll be taught

Deposit refunds

If you can't enrol because of Coronavirus (COVID-19) disruption, you will be entitled to a full deposit refund in the following circumstances:

  • you cannot meet your offer conditions
  • your economic circumstances have changed
  • travel restrictions are in place

If you choose to defer, your tuition fee deposit will be carried over.

English Language Testing

If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence of your English language skills as part of our entry requirements. Specific English language requirements are listed on each individual course page. See an overview of the English language qualifications we accept.

IELTS tests and exams

The University accepts a wide variety of alternative English language tests. For the latest information relating to dates for IELTS tests, please refer to the IELTS website

For booking an IELTS test in China, you can find exam details on its official site. To find exam availability, please visit the IELTS application portal where it updates the availability of exam spaces every day.

Open days

We know visits to the University are an important part of decision-making for students so we have a number of virtual open days for undergraduate and postgraduate students to attend.

We continue to be guided by Scottish Government advice. If there are changes to the number of people allowed to attend an event safely, then we will endeavour to host on-campus events later in the year.

Undergraduate

Our next Virtual Undergraduate Open Day is planned for Saturday 12 June 2021.

Postgraduate

Our next Virtual Postgraduate Open Day is in March 2021.
