About Abbie Lois

Abbie Lois is a Scottish printmaker and illustrator whose work focuses on folklore, the stories of people and the landscape around her. She often focuses on the stories of women and tries to amplify their stories through her practice. Another theme that runs through her work is the connection of our land and its inhabitants to mythology and folklore - she encourages viewers of her work to think about these links and their importance to our own connection to these elements in our modern-day lives.

She is often seen narrating the stories of her prints to people - it’s a part of her creative process as a storyteller, to let people fully immerse themselves into her work. The main ambition of her work is to preserve and re-imagine folk history in a way that makes it accessible to the modern world before it becomes forgotten and to bring people together through their similarities. She aims for each piece to hold a special place in the heart of the viewer, through gentle hand-drawn marks, minute details and soft colours.

Abbie hosts artist workshops across Scotland for both children and adults, usually combining printmaking and storytelling. She also has led artist residencies in Europe which focused on the local ecology and utilising natural materials.
