We are committed to offering a service which is welcoming and supportive of the needs of all students. Our takes into account the full range of needs of students with a disability in a wide variety of circumstances.
Advisers offer one-to-one support before you arrive and throughout your time at university to assess what you might need and help you access it. This includes help applying for the Disabled Student Allowance and support for students with Dyslexia to organise diagnostic assessment.

Our care experienced student advisers can help you with information and advice on a range of topics including SAAS funding (including the care experienced students bursary and the care experienced student accommodation grant) and 52-week accommodation. You can get in touch at any time from before you apply through to when you become a student, or finance pages.

The prospect of getting to grips with a new situation, your course, new people and even just finding your way about can be daunting. To help you deal with this we do everything we can to help you settle in as soon as possible.
In the first week of semester we offer a full induction programme for all new students which gives you loads of opportunities to meet other students and find out what you need to know to start your course.
At the beginning of your first semester you will be assigned an Student Services Hub. This member of staff is responsible for providing information, advice and guidance on your choice of course and modules and is your first point of contact if you have any concerns relating to your studies. You will also be allocated a Student Support Services who is your first point of contact for everything from academic guidance to personal advice.
STEER is a peer-mentoring programme run by The Students' Union and is open to all students in their first year of study. Mentors help new students settle in to the university and make the most of their time; you can ask them for advice or they can just be a friendly face on campus.
There is also a wide range of study and practical skills advice on offer. Information Services offer a rolling programme of student training sessions while Accessibility and Inclusion team provide wide-ranging study skills guidance including drop in sessions and credited half modules delivered both online and in the classroom. You also practice a lot of useful study skills in your classes, such as time management, exam techniques, academic writing styles and note-taking from lectures.
Throughout your time at the university Student Support Services and The Students' Union have trained counsellors who provide a free service to all students. They cover a range of services offering a safe and confidential environment where difficulties, no matter how big or small, can be talked through, including money worries, family/relationship problems, exam stress and more.
